A Party of 'No' Means 'Yes' to Liberty

Progressives denounce conservative Republicans as the "Party of No," as if they were ignorant and thoughtless. Combine that opinion with that espoused by Obama when he infamously assailed the U.S. Constitution as, "A charter of negative liberties." An irony emerges; Obama and his progressives are obsessed with the negativity of "yes".

American Thinker contributor Bruce Walker ably assailed Obama's perspective nearly two years ago:



Liberty is the absence of external control. Only in our age of collective thinking and untidy language could such a thing as "positive liberty" be conceived. The state power to coerce is not liberty.



It is true that the Bill of Rights of the Constitution denominates a number of significant matters which the federal government is not allowed to control. Thank Goodness! Therein lay our freedoms, all of which are positive!



Conservative Republicans are derided by progressives for saying "no" to their liberal/socialistic agenda without offering alternatives. The Conservative reply should be, "Thank you very much! We say "YES!" to our Constitutional directives! As Americans we say "No!" to initiatives that violate our foundational creed, and in that vein we are proud to be the party of no!"



As many Americans go to the polls this Tuesday, they should put faith in the people who are thoughtful enough, grown-up enough, brave enough to say "No"
