from Oathkeepers:
Today is Veterans Day. This is a day when we remember and honor those who have served in the armed forces of our nation, from the men who stood their ground at Lexicon an Concord, to those who served in each generation since, up to the current conflicts.
We veterans of today stand in a long, unbroken line of heritage and service that goes back to 1775, and even beyond. Remember, many of the men who fought in our Revolution were veterans of the French and Indian war. They had already seen battle, and that is why they were men who knew very much what they were about, as one British officer described them after being on the receiving end of their wrath as those veterans swarmed around the retreating Regulars all the way back to Boston on that cool April day so long ago.
Frankly, it was the veterans of the French and Indian conflict who proved to be the critical element that tipped the scales onto the side of Independence and Liberty. From Samuel Whitmore on, they proved their metal yet again and provided the critical experience, wisdom, and leadership during the fight against the world super-power of the day.
Today, in our nation's current time of need, we veterans will play a similar pivotal role. I am convinced that it will be the veterans who will save this nation. whether this republic is preserved will depend on what we veterans do.
Thus, we veterans must do more than just remember and Honor. We must also commit to fulfilling our oaths by defending our Constitution and the liberty of our people.
We are still duty bound, and that duty won't expire till we do. So today, as part of Veterans Day, I encourage you to read the Declaration of Independence and recall WHY they fought. What were their grievances that compelled them to take up arms?
And then read the Constitution you swore an oath to defend and renew your oath, pledging, once again, your life, your fortune, and your sacred Honor.
For the Republic,
Stewart Rhodes
