Obama Doesn’t Care that Most Americans Think Individual Mandate is Unconstitutional

From Godfather Politics:

Obama Doesn’t Care that Most Americans Think Individual Mandate is Unconstitutional

HCR-UNCONSTITUTIONALIn the months prior to the passage of the Affordable Care Act, also known as , various polls from across the nation revealed that from 70% to as much as 84% of the American people were against the healthcare act.   Obama supporters didn’t care what the people said as then Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi even said that they knew better than the American people.
One of the two most controversial parts of Obamacare is known as the individual mandate, which requires every American that does not have health  to purchase it or face hefty fines.  It is the first time in history that the federal government has required individuals to purchase a product.
The constitutionality of the individual mandate has been challenged in a number of courts and the decisions have been split.  Twenty-seven states have filed lawsuits over the constitutionality of the individual mandate.  The US  will be hearing arguments, starting the 26th of this month, to determine whether or not the individual mandate is constitutional or not.  However, I am not very optimistic about their final ruling as there are more liberals on the court than sensible conservatives.
With the SCOTUS hearing on the horizon, polls are being conducted to see how Americans feel about the individual mandate.  In a recent Gallup poll, 72% of Americans believe it to be .  The really surprising part of the survey was that 54% of Americans that were in favor of Obamacare believe that the individual mandate is .
When asked if they believe the individual mandate is constitutional only 6% of Republicans, 21% of Independents and 37% of Democrats responded affirmatively.
The one argument that the Supreme Court will not hear is how millions of Americans are going to afford to pay $300 to $500 per month for insurance when they are already unable to pay their mortgages or put food on the table in today’s economy.  What about families that have lost jobs and are just trying to survive?  How are they supposed to pay for mandatory health care, especially when insurance premiums are rising month by month?
One thing is for sure, if the Supreme Court rules in the president’s favor, a number of American families will be faced with  and  if they are forced to purchase health insurance that they cannot afford.  The insurance mandate will only serve to further diminish the ranks of middle class America and increase the number of families living in poverty.
