Michigan, Florida, Alabama, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas and Virginia have all signed on to an amicus brief filed Wednesday afternoon.

The Northern Mariana Islands also signed on to the amicus brief.

Arizona GOP Gov. Jan Brewer thanked Cox for stepping in to support her embattled state.

"The United States was founded as a nation of laws and not of men, and I am deeply grateful for the national outpouring of support for the rights of states and the rule of law," Brewer said in a statement
